A truly creepy found footage film following a man answering a Craigslist ad for a videographer. The job seems sketchy (the man is strange, the mountain house is secluded) but he decides to stick it out for the money. This is obviously a big mistake. There are jump scares but the whole thing feels actually scary and the plot is fresh. The first in an intended Creep trilogy.
The second movie in an intended Creep trilogy. This time a woman with a YouTube show where she meets and befriends strangers on Craigslist. She meets the main character from the original Creep and begins to document him for a day, slowly realizing what a gigantic mistake she has made. Fun fact: the script for this movie was only an outline, so what you’re seeing is a lot of improvisation that adds to the overall unsettling effect of the movie. The opening scene itself is fun and horrifying enough to make the whole movie worth it (but I promise the rest of the film is just as good). At one point it had a 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
The Houses October Built (2014)
A found footage film following a group of friends as they attempt to find the scariest haunted house of all time. The attraction they’re searching for is the ultimate underground extreme haunted house called “blue skeleton”. The lines between what’s “real” horror soon blurs. The setting is extra creepy because the next time you visit a haunted house, you’ll worry about what’s going down behind the scenes.
